Poza Rica de Hidalgo is a city located north of the Mexican state of Veracruz, east of the Mexican Republic, the main urban center of the northern part of the state. Its conurbated zone is made up of settlements and population centers, subdivisions, colonies, industrial and commercial areas, settled on territories of the bordering municipalities in a conurbation in process of ratification by the involved Town Councils and the State Congress, in which the city of Poza Rica would constitute the central nucleus and that would include five municipalities in partial form, with peripheral sectors of the municipalities of Coatzintla, Tihuatlán, Cazones.
The city hosts delegations and government and administrative offices for the northern part of the State, as well as a wide range of education ranging from elementary education to university. It is also the administrative headquarters of the North Region of Pemex Exploration and Production, one of the 4 regions in which the subsidiary of Petróleos Mexicanos is subdivided. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, a very high degree of human development is observed in the city, with an HDI of 0.8669 points and a per capita GDP index of 0.712 points.
