Martínez de la Torre is a city and municipality located in the state of Veracruz, in the Nautla region, east of the Mexican Republic. It limits to the north with the municipality of Tecolutla, to the east with the municipalities of Misantla and San Rafael, to the south with the municipalities of Atzalan and Misantla and to the west with the municipality of Tlapacoyan and the state of Puebla. The capital is the city of Martínez de la Torre, where the most important economic activities of the region are developed.
The name of the municipality is due to the lawyer Teziuteco Rafael Martinez de la Torre, who was the one who donated the land where the municipal seat of this municipality and San Rafael is located. Together with Pedro Belli, they granted the decree to draw Paso de Novillos for the conformation of the municipality of Martínez de la Torre. Before the city had one of the most important sugar mills in the region. According to the INEGI 2015 Population and Housing Count, the total population of the municipality is 110,415 inhabitants, some of its most important locations are Villa Independencia and Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
