The municipality of Maltrata is located in the central area of the State of Veracruz, in the region called the Great Mountains, it is one of the 212 municipalities of the entity. It is located at coordinates 18°49 "north latitude and 97°17" west longitude, and has a height of 1,720 meters above sea level. The municipality comprises 34 localities in which 14,813 people live, it is a municipality categorized as semi-urban. Maltrata has a mainly temperate and humid climate, with abundant rains mainly in autumn and some more in winter. The municipality of Maltrata celebrates its traditional festivities in honor of the patron saint San Isidro Labrador on May 14 and 15.
