The municipality of Jalcomulco is located in the central area of the state of Veracruz, Mexico, in the region called Capital, is one of the 212 municipalities of the state. It is located 29 km away from Xalapa, the state capital and 359 km away from Mexico City. It is located at coordinates 19°20'N 96°46'W, and has an altitude of 340 meters above sea level. This municipality was founded in 1825, it is made up of three localities in which 4,940 people live, according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census of INEGI.
The municipal head, of the same name, sits on the left bank of the Los Pescados river, or river of La Antigua itself that crosses the municipality in a west to east direction. Its most important communities, according to their number of inhabitants are: Jalcomulco with 2,955, Santa María Tatetla with 1,777 and Tacotalpan with 167. Its geographical limits are: North: Coatepec and Emiliano Zapata. South: Tlaltetela. East: Apazapan. West: Tlaltetela and Coatepec.
