Ixtapan de la Sal is a magical town located 135 kilometers southwest of Mexico City in the state of Mexico and 85 kilometers south of the city of Toluca, capital of the State of Mexico. Ixtapan de la Sal, stands out as an important tourist center of the state of Mexico, has a hot temperature almost all year. With the characteristic of being considered an important tourist destination of the State of Mexico and is considered a Magic Town by the Ministry of Tourism since September 25,2015.
Due to the mildness of its climate, with an average temperature of 26 degrees Celsius, and for its springs of thermal waters with curative properties, this place of provincial tranquility, has been propitious site for the development of spas that have modern facilities and excellent tourist services. The name of Ixtapan de la Sal is of Nahuatl origin, and means "on salt". A beautiful tree-lined Jacaranda walk and a gazebo with the sculpture of Diana the Huntress welcome the visitor to Ixtapan de la Sal, a place that was once inhabited by Matlatzinca groups, and where a typical remodeled town can now be admired.
History indicates that, when the Conquest was consummated, the Spaniards settled in the region shortly after the Conquest of Mexico, leaving a mark with colonial architecture, which can be admired in the Parroquia de la Asunción, whose main front is one of the better examples of the plateresque style, the sculpture of a reed Christ to the natural size known by the locals as the Lord of Forgiveness. Among the most important festivities that are celebrated in Ixtapan de la Sal, are: The Carnival, the Regional Fair, Easter Week and the festival of San Isidro Labrador, same that are celebrated in the months of February, March, April and May, respectively, as well as the Annual Tourist Fair. Ixtapan de la Sal offers visitors various recreational and leisure activities as well as a beautiful landscape of cobblestone streets and red tile roofs, a classic view of the Mexican people. This important tourist center offers the visitor multiple services: nightclub, hotels with installations for conventions, work meetings and sports. To these services, Ixtapan de la Sal adds a travel agency, craft shops, golf club and restaurants, among others.
