Torreón is a city belonging to the state of Coahuila. It is located in the northeast of Mexico, together with the neighboring cities of Gómez Palacio, Ciudad Lerdo, Matamoros, among other 4 municipalities of the state of Coahuila and 12 of the state of Durango form the Laguna, it is a metropolitan area due to its population. The economy of the city is based on the agricultural industry, the textile industry, metallurgical, chemical, commerce and services. It is one of the youngest cities in Mexico, because in 2007 it celebrated its one hundred years. It is popularly known as "City of great efforts" for its prosperous industry and commerce and its short time of age.
According to the 2015 Census of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, the City has a population of 679 288 inhabitants, so that 95.18% live in the municipal seat. It is part of the metropolitan area of La Laguna, made up of the municipalities of Torreón, Gómez Palacio, Ciudad Lerdo and Matamoros, with a population of more than 1 283 564 inhabitants, making it the ninth largest urban area in Mexico.
