Cuatro Ciénegas
Cuatrociénegas is one of the 38 municipalities of the state of Coahuila de Zaragoza, in the north of Mexico, in the Desert Center Region of Coahuila, its municipal head is the city of Cuatrociénegas de Carranza. In November 1994, the government decreed that the Cuatrociénegas Valley would be protected as a Flora and Fauna Protection Area. The city is famous for the springs and lagoons that surround it and that flourish in the middle of the desert, these springs, which constitute a biosphere reserve, form a unique ecosystem with endemic species. It is considered the Mexican Galápagos for its biodiversity and high index of endemism.
