Altamira is a municipality of the state of Tamaulipas, in Mexico. This municipality is located near the cities of Tampico and Ciudad Madero, in the Gulf of Mexico, in the south of the state of Tamaulipas. In 2015, it had a population of 235,066 inhabitants. It is the first port nationwide in the handling of petrochemical fluids, and the fourth in cargo handling. The head of the municipality is the city of Altamira. To the north is Aldama. The largest city in the municipality is Miramar, with 118,614 inhabitants in 2010.
