For the city, see: Jonuta. Jonuta is a municipality in the Mexican state of Tabasco, located in the region of the Usumacinta River and in the sub-region of the marshes. Its municipal seat is the city of Jonuta and has a division constituted, in addition, by 38 ejidos, 54 rancherías, 4 towns, 1 subdivision, 4 urban colonies, 2 rural colonies and a new urban center. Its extension is of 1 575.64km², which correspond to 6.43% of the total of the state. This places the municipality in the fourteenth place in territorial extension.
It borders to the North and to the East with the Municipality of Palizada in the state of Campeche, to the South with the municipality of Emiliano Zapata and the State of Chiapas and to the West with the municipalities of Centla and Macuspana.
