Jalpa de Méndez
For the municipality, see: Jalpa de Méndez Head of the homonymous municipality of Jalpa de Méndez, in the Mexican state of Tabasco. It is located 29 km from the city of Villahermosa, capital of the state. It is famous for being the birthplace of Colonel Gregorio Méndez Magaña a soldier who participated in the French Intervention in Tabasco, and that in his honor the municipality and the city bear his name. The importance of this city in the colonial era was such that it was named capital of the Chontalpa party and for many years it was one of the two most important towns in the colonial province of Tabasco.
