Mazatlan is a city of the northwest of Mexico and head of the municipality of the same name. Founded in 1531, it is located in the state of Sinaloa and is the second in importance of the entity. Currently this port is one of the most important beach tourist destinations in Mexico. It is located 21 kilometers south of the Tropic of Cancer and borders on the north with the municipality of San Ignacio and west with the Pacific coast. It is also known as "The pearl of the Pacific." The city has been expanding with new colonies, infrastructure, tourist complexes and many kilometers of beach located along the coastal area that covers 17 kilometers.
According to the III Population and Housing Count 2010, Mazatlan had a population of 438 434 inhabitants.
