San Luis Potosí is a city and Mexican municipality, capital and most populated city of the state of San Luis Potosí, The city is located in the north central area of the state, seat of the executive, legislative and judicial powers of the state. It has an average altitude above sea level of 1,860 meters above sea level. Since 2005, the urban area borders the municipalities of Cerro de San Pedro, Villa de Zaragoza, Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, Mexquitic de Carmona and Villa de Arriaga. Its municipal population is 824,299 inhabitants, its metropolitan area reaches a population of approximately 1,040,443 inhabitants, which places it as the eleventh most populated metropolitan area in Mexico.
The historic center of the city is recognized as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Its important and accelerated industrial development has favored positively the economic and demographic growth of the area. In mid-2010, the city was named, by The Financial Times, the third zone with the greatest economic potential in Mexico and one of the best places to invest, among 700 cities in the world, surpassed only by Dubai Airport Free Zone, and by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone. The standard of living of the city is considered one of the highest, it is considered an average city since it contributes 68% of the state GDP, low unemployment rate, it is considered as one of the best cities to live in Mexico, besides to be rated as one of the best cities to do business.
