Pantepec
Pantepec is one of the 217 municipalities in which the Mexican state of Puebla is divided. The name of this municipality and of the homonymous municipal head is derived from the nahuas pantli and tepetl, giving rise to the modern word Pantepec cited above. However, in the entry of the Dictionary of Nahuatl in the Spanish of Mexico, by Carlos Montemayor, we find the following: due to the composition of the town, the name could be a shortening of Icpantepec,"on the hill", of the Nahuatl icpan, on top of something and tepetl, hill.
