Teotitlán del Valle is a town in the state of Oaxaca, located 30 kilometers from the City of Oaxaca, on the road to the Isthmus of Tehúantepec. Teotitlán Del Valle is Distinguished and Characterized by its Beautiful Wool Tapétes that its inhabitants elaborate with masterful talent and passion. Heritage of an ancestral tradition and one of the main Zapotec and pre-Hispanic Peoples of Mexico, located in the southwest of Mexico, rich in traditions and customs that date from before the Colony and that were modified when the Spaniards arrived.
The religious, as well as the pagan, is the main mixture of this culture, in the festivities the dancers, with their splendid tufts, dance in the atrium of the church and fill the town with festivity in those days, in addition to the beautiful calenda that runs through the main streets of the town, in which the ladies of the town dress in their typical costume and carry a basket of flowers with the image of a saint. The main party is the first Wednesday July of each year. Teotitlán is considered the first town founded by the Zapotecs in 1465, according to the information compiled by Fray Francisco de Burgoa.
