Santa María Mixtequilla is a town located approximately 9 km south of Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, in the state of Oaxaca, in Mexico. It is under the feet of the hill and on the banks of a large artificial channel, which starts from the dam of Santa María Jalapa del Marqués. As in most of the towns of Oaxaca, Santa María Mixtequilla performs its traditional festivities in honor of its patrons or saints: on April 29, at Santa Catalina de Siena, and on May 15 at San Isidro Labrador, both organized by the butlers who, year after year, seek to honor and maintain traditions.
In them, tours are carried out with the queen of the festival, as well as the so-called captains and captains, who give gifts to those attending the candles.
