The Heroic City of Tlaxiaco is a city in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It is located in the northwest of the state, and belongs to the Mixteca Alta of Oaxaca. It takes its name from the municipal seat, which was called Heroica thanks to a battle in which Mexicans and French fought during the Second French Intervention. Its predominant climate is temperate, its vegetation is pine and oak forest. Its main economic activity is commerce.
Tlaxiaco is a name of Nahuatl origin, which comes from the words Tlach, Quiahui and -co, where it has the approximate meaning of "Site where it rains in the ball game court."
