Guasave is one of the 18 municipalities of the State of Sinaloa, Mexico. It is the only Sinaloa municipality mostly flat, the only elevations of the municipality are islands or coastal hills that surround the bays of Navachiste and San Ignacio. Before the arrival of the Spaniards, this municipality was inhabited by indigenous Guasaves. The name comes from a word of the ethnolinguistic group cáhita, comes from guaza: "fence","land of labor","sementera" or "land between milpas", and ave,"next" or "together", the place name would mean then "place next to the fields or where there is arable land". It is known in the state as "The agricultural heart of Mexico." According to the 2015 census it had a population of 295,353 inhabitants.
