Pinos was founded on February 12,1594 under the name of "Real de Nuestra Senora de la Purisima Concepción de Cuzco and Discovery of Mines that call the Sierra de Pinos" and formed an important stage of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, connecting the Mexico City with Santa Fe, Its current name is due to the forests that covered the mountain range and whose wood was used in the foundry of metals. It is located in the state of Zacatecas within the Gran Tunal desert. In 2010 it has a population of 8,000 inhabitants and is divided into 3 neighborhoods. Center, La Cuadrilla, and Tlaxcala.
The Great Tunal, used to be the home of the huachichiles, and is characterized by a sparse vegetation of tall yuccas and thorny bushes as well as large plains, from which some rocky plateaus emerge. In the east of the triangle delimited by the capitals of the three states, is the Sierra de Pinos, and on one of its slopes, the town of the same name, built in the place where the first gold and silver mines were discovered, a about 2700 meters high.
