Compostela is a municipality of the Mexican state of Nayarit, its old name in the Nahuatl language was Cuatlan Valley or Place where there are snakes. The municipality of Compostela is located on the south coast of the state. It is located within the extreme geographic coordinates between the parallels 21º22 'to 20º52' of north latitude. And the meridians 104º49 'to 105º22' of west longitude. The municipality has an extension of 1,848 km², it communicates with the cities of Guadalajara, Jalisco and Tepic, in Nayarit by road and rail, and it is connected by road with the population of Puerto Vallarta, in Jalisco. The municipality counts according to the census of population of the year 2010 with 70,399 inhabitants.
