Zapopan pronunciation is a city and one of the 125 municipalities that make up the state of Jalisco, Mexico. It is located in the central region of the state, in the macro region of Bajío Occidente or Central West of Mexico. The population of the municipality, according to INEGI data in 2017, is 1,371,300 inhabitants, making it the eighth most populous municipality in Mexico and the second most populated in the state of Jalisco, second only to the municipality of Guadalajara with which, in addition to eight other municipalities, is part of the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, the second most populated and extensive in the country.
In the municipality are several places of relative importance, such as: New Mexico and Tesistán, in addition to the homonymous municipal seat. Zapopan is the municipality with the highest GDP per capita and IDH of Jalisco, as well as one of the 10 municipalities with the highest HDI and per capita income in Mexico, specifically ranks third in the IDH at the national level, the first in GDP per capita and the first in GDP, it is also the municipality that offers the most health, education and employment opportunities nationwide. For the period 2015 - 2018, Pablo Lemus Navarro, of Movimiento Ciudadano, was elected Municipal President of Zapopan.
