Puerto Vallarta is a city and one of the 125 municipalities of the state of Jalisco, Mexico. In 2005, the municipality had an estimated population of 307,107 people, as well as five million tourists per year. Together with the municipality of Bahía de Banderas in the state of Nayarit, it forms the Metropolitan Zone of Puerto Vallarta being the second most populated of both states.
