The municipality of Atitalaquia is one of the eighty-four municipalities that make up the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. Whose municipal seat is the locality of Atitalaquia. With an altitude between 2000 and 2700 meters above sea level, this municipality has an area of 63.43 km2, and represents 0.30% of the state's surface, within the geographical region known as Valle del Mezquital. It borders to the north with the municipalities of Tlaxcoapan and Tetepango. To the east with the municipality of Ajacuba. To the south with the municipalities of Atotonilco de Tula and Tula de Allende.
To the west with the municipality of Tula de Allende and Tlaxcoapan. Atitalaquia is considered within the metropolitan municipalities of the metropolitan area of Tula, also integrated by the municipalities of Tula de Allende, Atotonilco de Tula, Tlahuelilpan and Tlaxcoapan, being Tula de Allende the central municipality.
