Dolores Hidalgo officially as Dolores Hidalgo Cradle of National Independence is one of the 46 municipalities of the Mexican state of Guanajuato. It is located in the north-central region of its territory and has an area of 1656.18 km². According to the 2010 census, the population amounts to 148 173 at the municipal level and 59 240 at the municipal seat. The city is recognized by decree, both from the local government and the federal government, as the Cradle of Mexican Independence, as the atrium of its parish was witness to Grito de Dolores, the initial call to take up arms against the viceregal regime and of the Spanish crown issued by the presbyter Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla the dawn of September 16,1810.
