Celaya pronunciation is a Mexican city, head of the homonymous municipality in the state of Guanajuato. Founded on October 12,1570 under the name of Villa de la Purisima Concepción de Zalaya, it is the main urban center of the so-called Laja-Bajío metropolitan area, and therefore its most important economic center. It is located right in the central part of the extensive plain that includes the municipality, which is located in the southeast of the entity, occupying about 70 km².
