La Trinitaria is located in the southern part of the Comiteca plateau, belongs to the Grijalva area and is a border town with Guatemala. It is famous for having some of the most beautiful natural attractions in Chiapas, including the Lagunas de Montebello National Park. Its beautiful Colon Lakes and also for its archaeological remains, the most famous, the ruins of the pre-Columbian city of Chinkultic. The Trinitaria, formerly known as the "zapaluta", meaning the path of dwarves, was part of the Camino Real. The landscape leaves enchanted tourists thanks to the abundant nature of the place. Also they are known by the name of Lagos of Colors, since the water of each one of these Lagos has a different tone.
The entrance to these lakes is strictly prohibited because the water is used for the consumption of the people.
