Garabito is the 11th canton of the Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica. It occupies a narrow coastal plain, on the Costa Rican Central Pacific coast. According to the 2011 National Census, the population of the canton was 17,229 inhabitants, of which 24.1% were born abroad. The same census highlights that there were 5,313 occupied homes, of which 61.5% were in good condition and there were problems of overcrowding in 12.9% of the dwellings.73.1% of its inhabitants lived in urban areas. Among other data, the literacy level of the canton is 96.7%, with an average schooling of 7.5 years. The canton is an important pole of foreign investment, especially regarding the construction of beach hotels.
Garabito is among the 10 Costa Rican cantons with the highest rate of human development. The capital is the city of Jacó, a popular seaside resort in the country.
