Gloucester County
Gloucester County is a county in the US state of Virginia. In the 2000 census the county had a population of 34,780 inhabitants. It is part of the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News metropolitan area, also known as Hampton Roads. The county seat is Gloucester Courthouse. The county was formed in 1651 from a portion of York County. It was named in honor of Henry Stuart, 1st Duke of Gloucester, the third son of King Charles I of England.
