Beaufort County, founded in 1769, is one of the 46 counties of the US state of South Carolina. In the year 2000 it had a population of 120,937 inhabitants with a population density of 80 people per km² The county seat is Beaufort. The two parts of the province are physically connected through the Broad River Bridge. Despite the connectivity, often the "north of Broad" and "the south of Broad," the towns of the county are at odds over issues throughout the county.
