Cape Girardeau County
Cape Girardeau County is a county in the US state of Missouri. In the 2000 census the county had a population of 68,693 inhabitants. It is part of the metropolitan area of Cape Girardeau - Jackson. The county seat is Cape Girardeau, one of the five original counties of Missouri, founded on October 1,1812. It was named in honor of the French officer Jean Baptiste de Girardot, who in 1733 built an exchange post in the area currently occupied by the city of Cape Girardeau.
