Clayton County is a county in the US state of Georgia. At the 2000 census the county had a population of 236,517 inhabitants. The county seat is Jonesboro, the county is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is partially within the county. The county was founded in 1858 and was named in honor of Augustin Smith Clayton, a representative of Georgia. The novel Gone with the Wind and its film adaptation are set in Clayton County.
