Chatham County
Chatham County is a county in the US state of Georgia. In the 2000 census the county had a population of 232,048 inhabitants. However, according to 2009 estimates from the United States Census Bureau, the population was 256,992, making it the most populous county in Georgia outside of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The county seat is Savannah. Chatham County is one of the original eight counties of Georgia, being founded on February 5,1777. It was named in honor of William Pitt, Earl of Chatham. The county is part of the Savannah metropolitan area.
