Escambia County
The county of Escambia, is a county of the American state of Alabama that was founded on 1868 and the origin of its name could derive from the word creek Shambia that means "clear water" or of a choktaw word that would mean "stop of canes". In the year 2000 it had a population of 38,440 inhabitants with a population density of 15 people per km². The county seat is Brewton although the largest city is Atmore, it has been declared a catastrophic area due to the effects of hurricanes Frederick and Ivan in September 1979 and 2004 respectively.
