Province of Maipo
The province of Maipo is located in the center-south of the Metropolitan region of Santiago. Its surface is 1120.5 km² and it has a population of 496,078 inhabitants. The provincial capital is the city of San Bernardo, which is part of the so-called Greater Santiago. Formerly the department of La Victoria, in honor of the victory at the Battle of Maipú. The administration of the province is entrusted to the governor María José Puigrredón Figueroa, a commercial engineer and member of the Independent Democratic Union party. Its name honors the glorious basin of the Maipo River.
