Gualaceo, eastern canton of the province of Azuay, in Ecuador, at a distance of 35 kilometers from the provincial capital Cuenca. The current mayor for the period 2019 - 2024 is Gustavo Vera. It has a population of 38,587 inhabitants, it is bathed by the Santa Bárbara, San Francisco and Guaymincay rivers. Because of the unique beauty of this city located in the Santa Bárbara Valley and because of the welcoming nature of its people, Gualaceo is called the "Jardín Azuayo", which currently holds the title of Cultural Heritage of the Nation. Due to its location, it is a communications hub towards the Ecuadorian East. Its main activities are agriculture, crafts and tourism. The official celebration is celebrated on June 25.
