Heredia is the number 1 and central canton of the province of Heredia, Costa Rica. Its capital is the city of Heredia, which is also the head of the province of the same name. The canton, except the Varablanca district, is part of the Greater Metropolitan Area of the Central Valley. In the southern part of the canton are the industrial zones: La Valencia and Barreal, which represent 9% of the cantonal area. The same as the facilities of the National Center for Food Distribution. As well as national monuments such as the Old Fort and the house of Don Alfredo González Flores, former president of the republic, the historical and cultural monument of the Liceo de Heredia. The first agricultural activities in the southern part of the canton are the cultivation of coffee and livestock, the latter is located in small sectors of it. In the district Varablanca is mainly dairy farming.
