Mora is a canton located in the west of the province of San José, in Costa Rica, and partially belongs to the Greater Metropolitan Area. Bordered with the cantons of Alajuela and Athens in the north, the cantons of Puriscal and Turrubares in the west, Santa Ana in the east and the canton of Acosta in the south and southeast, and has a territorial extension of 162.04 km² Its head is Colón, with category of city. The canton has 29 290 inhabitants, according to the latest demographic projection of INEC. The canton is characterized as being considered the safest in the country, in 2011, due to its rural training and its extremely low level of crime, which is practically imperceptible.
The canton hosts the headquarters of the University for Peace, of the UN, and of the Quitirrisí indigenous reserve.
