San Martín is a department of the province of Corrientes, in the northeast of Argentina. It occupies 6634 km² in the northeast region of the province. The Sanmartiniano Museum is located in the department in the town of Yapeyú, where General José de San Martín was born. Much of the department belongs to the Esteros del Iberá natural reserve, including the town of Colonia Carlos Pellegrini, the main base for the exploration of the reserve. The departmental capital is the city of La Cruz. According to the national census conducted in 2010,13 140 people lived in this department at the time. Currently, agriculture, livestock and tourism are the foundations of the economy.
