East Ayrshire, is one of the 32 councils in which it is administratively divided Scotland, it limits with the councils of North Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire, South Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway. The administrative capital is Kilmarnock. Together with South Ayrshire and part of North Ayrshire it formed the ancient county of Ayrshire. From 1975 to 1996 the county was divided into the districts of Cumnock and Doon Valley, Cunninghame, Kilmarnock and Loudoun and Kyle and Carrick and became part of the Strathclyde region. In 1996, after the previous administrative organization was abolished, the council of East Ayrshire was formed with the old districts of Kilmarnock and Loudoun and Cumnock and Doon Valley.
