The metropolitan district of Wigan is a metropolitan district of Greater Manchester, in northwestern England. It is named after its main city, Wigan, and also includes the cities of Leigh, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Ince-in-Makerfield, and Hindley. The district was formed in 1974 and is the meeting of several former local administrations.
