Kirklees
Kirklees is one of the five metropolitan municipalities that form the metropolitan county of West Yorkshire. It is bordered to the northeast by Bradford and Leeds, to the east by Wakefield, to the south and south-east by South Yorkshire, to the south-west by Derbyshire and Greater Manchester, and to the northwest and north by Calderdale. It was created by the Local Government Act of 1972, which entered into force on April 1,1974, as a merger of the county councils of Huddersfield and Dewsbury, the non-county municipalities of Batley and Spenborough, and the urban districts of Colne Valley, Denby Dale, Heckmondwike, Holmfirth, Kirkburton, Meltham and Mirfield.
