The province of Pontevedra is a province of the northwest of Spain, located in the southwestern part of the autonomous community of Galicia, being its capital the city of Pontevedra. It limits with the provinces of La Coruña, Lugo, Orense, and with Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean. According to the municipal register of inhabitants of 2016, its population was 944,346 inhabitants, spread over 62 municipalities. Vigo is the most populated municipality in the province with 293,642 inhabitants, the second most populated is the municipality of Pontevedra with 82,946 inhabitants. Many other relevant municipalities due to their population are Marín, Sangenjo, Villagarcía de Arosa, Poyo, Redondela, Cangas, Puenteareas, La Estrada, Lalín, Moaña or Tuy.

In this province is the national park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia, which includes the islands of Cies in the Ría de Vigo, Ons in the Ría de Pontevedra and Cortegada in the Ría de Arousa. There is a provincial public institution that is the Diputación Provincial de Pontevedra with offices in Pontevedra and Vigo, which provides direct services to citizens and provides technical, economic and technological support to the town councils of the province of Pontevedra.
