Clackmannanshire is a council of Scotland, limited by the councils of Perth and Kinross, Stirling and Fife. The administrative capital is Alloa. It is the least populated council of Scotland, except for the insular councils. Historically it was one of the counties of Scotland, being smallest of them reason why frequently was nicknamed The wee county. Between 1975 and 1996 it was one of the districts of the Central Scotland region along with Stirling and Falkirk. In 1996 the old county was reconstituted as one of the new councils of Scotland.
In the referendum held on September 19,2014 where the Scots voted for the independence of their territory of Great Britain, it was the first county in which a complete scrutiny was carried out, with 46.2% in favor of independence and a 53.8% against secession.
