Lincolnshire / lɪŋkənʃə / is one of the forty-seven counties of England, United Kingdom, with capital in Lincoln. Located in the Yorkshire and Humber regions and East Midlands, it borders on the north with East Yorkshire, on the east with the sea of North, to the southeast with the estuary of Wash and Norfolk, to the south with Cambridgeshire, to the southwest with Northamptonshire -through a border of only 19 m,. The shortest between two English counties- and Rutland, and to the west with Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire. It occupies an area of 6959 km² -which places it as the second largest county after North Yorkshire- and its population in 2011 was 1 066 100 inhabitants.
