The district of Kgatleng, is one of the districts of Botswana, adjacent to the land of the Bakgatla. Its capital is Mochudi, hometown of the protagonist Precious Ramotswe of the popular novel series The Detective Agency for Ladies No.1, by the writer Alexander McCall Smith. According to the 2001 census, the Kgatleng district had a population of 73,507 people. The craftsmanship of the terracotta of the district was included in the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity that requires urgent safeguarding measures in 2012 by UNESCO. The Dikopelo, the traditional music of the district was included in the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity that requires urgent safeguard measures in 2017 by UNESCO.
