East Grand Bahama is a district of the Bahamas, located on the eastern part of the island of Grand Bahama. The seat of the district's local government is in the establishment of High Rock, a fairly small city. It is located approximately 40 miles east of the city of Freeport, and 20 miles from the town of McLeans. Other establishments in East Grand Bahama include Rocky Creek, Pelican Point, Gambier Point and Sweeting Cay. For many years the United States Air Force maintained a missile at a station near High Rock. The station is now used as a base of operations for a film studio, among which the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean stands out.
The Bahamas movie studios have one of the largest open water enclosures in the world, along with production offices and support facilities, such as property warehouses, wardrobe workshops and other covered space.
