Addis Ababa, also written as Addis Ababa or Addis Abbaba is the capital and most populous city of Ethiopia with a population of 3 384 569 inhabitants, according to the 2008 census. It is also the capital of the African Union and its predecessor, the Organization for African Unity. Designated city and state at the same time according to the Ethiopian territorial organization, in Addis Ababa live more than 80 nationalities and languages, as well as Christians, Muslims and Jews. From its lowest point, near the Bole International Airport, at 2,326 meters above sea level on the southern periphery, the city rises to more than 3,000 meters in the Entoto Mountains to the north. It is the highest city in Africa.
