Gracias a Dios
Gracias a Dios is one of the 18 departments that make up the Republic of Honduras, whose capital is the city of Puerto Lempira. It has a total area of 16,630km2, making it the second largest in the country, behind the Department of Olancho. For the most part, the territory is known as the Mosquitia. It borders to the south with the Republic of Nicaragua, to the west with the departments of Colón and Olancho. In 2005, it had an estimated population of 76,278 inhabitants. The Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve and the Caratasca Lagoon are located within the department.
