Chalatenango
Chalatenango is a department of El Salvador. Its departmental capital is Chalatenango, it is located north of the country's capital, San Salvador, bordering Honduras. In this department is located El Pital hill with 2730 m of altitude above sea level, the highest point in the country. The coldest climate in El Salvador takes place at this altitude. The current departmental governor is José Raimundo Alas Alas, appointed in July 2014 by the current President Salvador Sánchez Cerén. It replaces the businessman Carlos Alvarenga Márquez, appointed in July 2009, by the President of El Salvador, Mauricio Funes.
