The province of Santiago de Cuba is the second province of Cuba in number of inhabitants. Its main city and capital is Santiago de Cuba, whose municipality has 494,913 inhabitants. In 2005 it had 1,045,337 inhabitants according to the National Statistics Office. It is located in the eastern part of the island, called Región de Oriente.
