Lavalleja
Lavalleja is one of the nineteen departments that make up the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. Its capital and most populated city is Minas. It is located in the center-east of the country, bordering the north with Treinta y Tres, east with Rocha, south with Maldonado and west with Canelones and Florida. It has 58 815 inhabitants and an area of 10 016 km², having a population density of 5.87 inhabitants / km². It receives his name in tribute to the Brigadier General Juan Antonio Lavalleja for his outstanding military and political performance during the independence struggle of the country.
